A Rooster In Suburbia

The rooster crows!!!
Such a glorious call like a bugle
sounding reveille in the countryside;
But, such a foreign sound in suburbia,
this sad city version of his song.
Oh, I love the sounds of nature,
When at our country place I walk at times
especially to hear the frogs sing while crickets play,
and to hear hoot owls ‘questioning me’ amongst the pines;
But here, in the city, come on people;
even I am prompted to wonder,
What is a rooster doing here?
Was he brought in to antagonize;
for surely he does with his
incessant confused crowing throughout the day.
Maybe he is a payback to the neighbors
with the multiple dogs who bark and bark and…
What’s next, a pig, a mule, or maybe a goat?
